Almost hit the record today!! Clocked 4:16 on the stopwatch as shown in my pic. Still need practising on the two-finger snap at launch, but getting closer every day. The balance on this stainless steel king is unreal.
The mirror polish on the steel crown is gorgeous under natural light. When it settles into the center of the glass dish it spins completely silent, you can barely tell it's moving. Such a classy piece for my desk.
Bought this as a birthday gift for my dad who has played chess his whole life. He was genuinely touched when he opened the black gift box—the gold foil Good Luck card and custom foam packaging made it look like luxury jewelry. He keeps it right next to his tournament board.
This has completely replaced the mindless phone scrolling habit at my desk. Whenever I hit a block writing code, I spin it once and take a forced 4-minute breather until it stops. The tungsten carbide tip is super smooth and silent.
Pictures don't really prepare you for how dense this feels. It fits right between your thumb and index finger but weighs over 60 grams of pure CNC steel. The tiny cross and crown knurling are incredibly crisp up close.
Clocked 4 minutes and 12 seconds on my fourth try!! When it gets into a dead-still sleep spin in the center of the concave glass base, it looks completely frozen. Watching it spin is hypnotic.
Between spins it honestly just looks like a miniature piece of modern sculpture resting on its little frosted pedestal. Solid stainless steel with real heft to it. Beautiful addition to our living room table.
As a mechanical engineer, the balance on this top is phenomenal. Zero visible runout or tooling chatter on the lathe lines, and the low center of gravity keeps it dead stable through the gyroscopic precession.
My cat is utterly fascinated by this thing haha. She sits there with her head tilted watching it spin in the glass arena without even daring to paw at it.
Got this for my husband for our steel anniversary. He loves tactile EDC gear and hasn't stopped playing with it since yesterday morning. Worth every penny.
Got this for my dad who has been an avid chess player for 40 years. He was genuinely speechless when he opened it. He keeps it right by his wooden chess board and spins it between matches haha.
Extremely calming to watch after a chaotic Zoom meeting. There's something deeply therapeutic about watching the reflection glide around the glass dome.
As an avid chess player, having the King piece machined in mirror-polished stainless steel right beside my board is just poetic. Spun it between classical games yesterday and it was wonderfully grounding.
Takes a bit of practice to get the two-finger snap just right since the crown is relatively compact, but once you find the sweet spot it spins like a dream on the glass lens. Hit just under 3 and a half minutes today. Solid 4 stars.
